please, will you draw me a toad?
Draw your toad, give it a bit of mud and send it to us!
Hundreds of really ugly really beautiful toads, frogs, various characters and intruders
will come together to create one huge installation, on display
from 1 December 2026 at GAM – Galleria Civica d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Torino,
and then sold at the charity auction on 12 December 2026.
By tradition and collective imagination, the toad evokes repulsion and ugliness.
What’s more, amphibians are the most endangered vertebrates in Italy: 40% of species are at risk - just think, the golden toad, which disappeared in 1989, is the local and global symbol
of habitat and biodiversity loss! - Art can give social, emotional and environmental value back to the outcast: that’s why we chose the toad as the star of this edition!
All grown-ups were once children – although few of them remember it.*
And to rediscover the child within each of us,
we asked
everyone a simple question: please, will you draw me a
toad?
Che bèeèello! is an open call dedicated to drawing and sharing.
This edition is dedicated to the toad, forever left out
for looking “ugly and different”.
What if the time had come to look at it with new eyes and put it on show?
Che bèeèello! is a call open to everyone, to create a single, ever-evolving
collective installation,
able to celebrate the stylistic and conceptual uniqueness of every author.
Despite the multitude of individual toads – or rather, precisely because of it! – they will form
one big pond where every toad is the black sheep!
By tradition and collective imagination, the toad evokes repulsion and neglect.
Art can give social, emotional and environmental value back to the outcast:
that’s why we chose the toad as the star of this edition.
And precisely because it will be a unique work of art, it will be displayed somewhere special:
on the walls of the Educational Area at GAM in Turin.
Anyone with a toad to draw can take part, no limits: grown-ups and children,
Italians and foreigners, authors, illustrators, dreamers, naturalists, curious minds…
Bèeèautiful, right?
* That’s what the Little Prince thought, and it’s true.
It’s simple! Draw your toad by 29 November 2026
How to send your toad
Toads can be dropped into the dedicated boxes by 29 November 2026 (during opening hours).
You will find the boxes at the project promoters:
Each author can take part in the call by sending one or more signed illustrations in A5 format (half an A4), drawn by hand or digitally.
Any technique is welcome, as long as it is no thicker than 3 mm (so no sculptures, however beautiful).
Hopping here and there.
The journey of “Che bèeèello! – Toad Edition” is even richer and more varied than the first edition, thanks also to the collaboration with Faber Teater, Associazione CentroScienza, Ecomuseo del Freidano and Fondazione ECM of Settimo Torinese, which offer, throughout the months the call is open, opportunities to approach the theme through different languages.
All drawings received by 29 November 2026 may become part of the installation and will be displayed at GAM in Turin, on the walls of the Educational Area. The number of toads displayed will be the one the Organisers consider best suited to the initial setup. All the other works, if not displayed at the opening, will still be lovingly looked after and, given the open nature of the installation and the agility of toads, will seek new exhibition opportunities in the following months.
Hundreds of toads drawn by creatives, illustrators, painters, sketchers, doodlers and dreamers, with no limits of age, country, technique or ideas. A choral work, one big pond of toads where every toad is the black sheep!
As an open and inclusive work, the installation is enriched and accompanied by workshop activities for children, teens, families and schools, curated by the GAM Education Department.
On 12 December 2026 the small original works will be auctioned off and the proceeds will go to a charity whose name will be announced soon.
The installation will be on display at GAM | Educational Area from 1 December 2026, during Gallery opening hours.
In colour, in black and white, in pencil, in collage, photographic,
painted, embroidered, invented: every toad will be unique…
in short, your toad is up to you!
Remember to sign it and write your name!
(if you really
can’t do the back, we’ll stamp it for you).
